Be true to the funk of life.' So is paraphrased the great contemporary commentator Cornell West.

Bang the Vig wouldn't know about all that. He crawled out from under his stone finally fully formed at the age of 65. He claimed his State Pension, his Freedom Pass and his Winter fuel cash and then rocked up at our studios demanding that he record his debut album from a stash of demos on a memory stick clutched in his rancid palm.

Three years later, having enlisted the help of brit-funksters from Odyssey, Swing Out Sister and Lenny Henry's band, here are the intriguing and somewhat dodgy characters in Mr Bang's life. He has them laid bare in their sometimes shocking but mostly valiant stories of bloody minded and courageous resistance to the funk of life.....

Mr Bang agrees with West that we are born, live and die in the funk but contrary to West, our redemption is not in the religious concept of Spirit. Mr.Bang finds his in contrarianism and the aged's equivalent of the myconium crown - rage, double incontinence and a sweet wailing nostalgie de la boue.
